Your questions answered

What can I expect on a retreat?
Participants in our retreats regularly say that their experience has transformed how they see things. The positive energy of the place and the group, the change of scene and the inspiring views all around can open new vistas in the mind. From a practical point of view, you can expect top-quality food and luxury accommodation, stimulating interaction with a group of no more than eight people, new learning, quiet time, guided mountain walks and experience of mindful living.
What does a typical retreat look like?
Our regular executive retreats are 4 days and nights. All scheduled events are optional. A typical day starts with guided meditation and mindful movement. Mornings and afternoons are a mix of group activities (maximum group size eight people), group or individual coaching, mindful walking and private quiet time. The programme includes one full-day hike led by a mountain guide (average level of fitness required – see separate question), one-hour full-body massage and free use of our outdoor hot tub.
Is use of mobile devices allowed?
We encourage unplugging during our retreats, to maximise the value of the experience. However, we recognise that participants often need to remain in touch with work or family. The choice is yours and free wi-fi is available.
What’s the accommodation like?
All the retreats take place in a top-rated luxury Alpine chalet, spectacularly located in one of France’s most beautiful villages. Maison La Cerisaie is an authentic 1830 farmhouse, beautifully renovated to combine traditional Alpine character with contemporary design. All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms and you can either share or have your own room at supplementary cost. The spacious living area with its beautiful wood-burning stove exemplifies hygge.
What about food?
All retreats are fully catered and meals are occasions to savour and enjoy. We also introduce you to mindful eating. So a key element of your stay is the delicious, creative, vegan food prepared by our professional chef. Ingredients are always fresh, and wherever possible organic and locally sourced. If you have specific dietary restrictions or preferences, we’ll build these into the menu. Dinner is accompanied by complimentary drinks, including wine and beer if you wish. A wide range of hot drinks is available at any time.
How do I get there and back?
Our beautiful mountain location is one of the most accessible in the French Alps. We recommend flying into Geneva airport, which is only just over an hour away by road. Geneva is well served by flights from all over Europe, including many from UK regional airports. We meet you at the airport and drive you to and from Maison La Cerisaie in our own minibus. If you prefer ground transport, there is a frequent high-speed train service from Paris to Geneva and we are only 8 hours driving time from Calais.
What happens when I go home?
We understand that it can be difficult to translate new learning into everyday life. Sustaining learning is therefore a strong theme of all our retreats. You’ll have a conversation with Sally-Anne before you arrive, and after the retreat a follow-up call within 4 weeks. And you’ll go home with a set of practical tools and techniques you can use every day to feel more resourceful.
Do I need to prepare for the outdoor activities?
We aim to make enjoyment of our mountain environment accessible to everyone. No previous experience of Alpine activities is necessary. Typically, all our summer and autumn retreats include a full-day guided hike. For this you need only an average level of fitness, suitable footwear and light, layered outdoor clothing, plus a water bottle and a day sack you’re comfortable carrying for 7-8 hours. We’re always happy to answer any questions you may have about this.
